We have been continuing to focus on risky play opportunities at daycare to give our children opportunities to challenge themselves. Children have been extending themselves on the monkey bars, stacking tyres and climbing inside, completing more challenging obstacle course, climbing on the top of the monkey bars, swinging upside down and jumping from higher boxes.
As children push the boundaries of what they are capable of they become more capable- they become stronger, more agile, better balanced, and most importantly, better able to regulate their emotions and to assess tricky situations where their own safety may be at risk. They are learning to manage their own safety in situations where safety isn’t guaranteed. This is an essential life skill.
